Terms of Service#
Last updated: 2026-08-20
These terms govern the use of GraceDNS, a protective DNS service provided by botBrains GmbH, Osloer Str. 83, 13359 Berlin, Germany ("we", "us").
1. The service#
GraceDNS resolves DNS queries and, depending on your configuration, blocks queries or answers matching threat intelligence lists, category lists, or your own custom rules. The service is provided over plain DNS (port 53), DNS over TLS and DNS over HTTPS. Configuration is managed through our API and, in the future, a web application.
2. Plans and pricing#
- Individuals: free of charge, up to 3 configuration sets, no query log search.
- Businesses: 1 USD per user per month, or 10 USD per user per year when paid in advance. Unlimited configuration sets.
- Schools and universities: 50% of the business price, 0.50 USD per student per month or 5 USD per student per year in advance. Faculty accounts are free. Student counts are rounded up to the nearest 1000 at the start of each semester.
Prices are net of applicable VAT. We may change prices with at least 30 days notice; changes apply from the next billing period.
3. Acceptable use#
You must not use GraceDNS to break the law, to attack the service or third parties (including denial-of-service or resolver abuse), to circumvent security measures, or to resell resolution capacity without a written agreement. We may rate-limit or suspend configurations that endanger the stability of the service, and will notify you where practical.
4. Your responsibilities#
You are responsible for the rules you configure (including allowlist entries that override protective blocking), for keeping your API credentials confidential, and for ensuring you are entitled to route the DNS traffic of the devices and networks you connect.
5. Availability and honest limitations#
We build for high availability but the free plan carries no availability commitment. Business plans receive the service description and support commitments in their order form. DNS filtering has structural limits (domain-level granularity, bypass via VPNs or hardcoded resolvers, shared-infrastructure effects) which we document openly at What DNS filtering cannot do. Filtering is a risk reduction, not a guarantee that harmful content can never be reached.
6. Data protection#
Our processing of personal data is described in the Privacy Policy. Business and school customers can conclude our Data Processing Agreement.
7. Liability#
We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence and under the German Product Liability Act. For slight negligence we are liable only for breaches of essential contractual obligations (Kardinalpflichten), limited to the foreseeable damage typical for this type of contract. For the free plan, liability for slight negligence is excluded to the extent legally permissible.
8. Term and termination#
Free accounts may be terminated by either side at any time. Paid plans run for the booked period and renew unless cancelled with 30 days notice to the end of the period. We may terminate for cause, in particular for violations of section 3. On termination, section "Migration and Data Export" of our compliance page applies.
9. Changes to these terms#
We may amend these terms with at least 30 days notice by email to account holders. If you do not object before the changes take effect, continued use constitutes acceptance; we will point this out in the notice.
10. Final provisions#
German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. For merchants, the place of jurisdiction is Berlin. Should individual provisions be invalid, the remainder stays in effect.
